Meet Martina
Hello, I’m Martina Vaneckova (Vaněčková), a registered psychologist and the founder of Growth and Healing Psychology in Calgary, AB. If my last name gives it away—I’m originally from Slovakia, and I immigrated to Canada with my family in 2004. Before making Calgary home, I also lived in the U.K. and South Korea—experiences that gave me a deep, personal understanding of navigating life’s many transitions, both exciting and challenging. These journeys shaped my appreciation for the many ways we experience the world. While we may share common human struggles, our personal stories, cultural backgrounds, and identities make us beautifully unique. That belief is the foundation of my work: I meet each client where they are, with curiosity, compassion, and respect.
My Philosophy
At my core, I believe in helping you find balance—within yourself and your relationships—so you can live a life that feels grounded, fulfilling, and true to who you are. Healing isn’t linear, and you don’t have to do it alone. My role is to provide a safe, judgment-free space where you feel supported, seen, and empowered to grow.

About Growth and Healing Psychology
I founded Growth and Healing Psychology to create a space where individuals can safely explore their inner worlds, overcome challenges, and move toward a life of balance and fulfillment. As someone who has personally navigated cultural transitions and the complexities of personal growth, I bring not only clinical experience but also deep empathy and understanding of life’s emotional landscapes.
A Bit About Me
Outside the therapy room, I’m someone who recharges in nature—whether that’s a quiet mountain hike or a walk in the park. I love discovering cozy cafes, getting lost in books, dancing, practicing yoga, and finding joy in the little things that nurture both body and mind.
If you’re ready to begin your journey toward healing and growth, I’d be honoured to walk alongside you.
My Approach
Every journey is unique—and so is the kind of support that helps along the way. I use an integrative approach to therapy, combining evidence-based methods tailored to your individual needs, goals, and strengths.
Some of the approaches I draw from include:
Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Identifying and shifting thought patterns that influence emotions and behaviours.
Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)
Developing practical tools to address immediate concerns and move forward with clarity.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Supporting you in making space for difficult emotions while committing to actions aligned with your values.
Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)
Utilizing rapid eye movements and imagery to gently and effectively process trauma and reduce distress
Narrative Therapy
Helping you reframe and reshape your personal story with agency and self-compassion.
Systems Therapy
Exploring how relationships, family, and social contexts impact your well-being.
Mindfulness Practices
Cultivating presence, emotional regulation, and a deeper sense of calm.
